February might be a short month, but it’s definitely a fun one when you live at The Hat at East Village! There are loads of fun things to do and explore in the East Village area. Check out our list of 5 fun things that you should check out this month before they all melt away (pun intended).
1. Visit the new Saskanotin Art Installation by Delreé Dumont
A new temporary art installation has popped up on 6th Street and 8th Avenue SE near the entrance to the East Village Nordic Loop.
Titled Saskanôtin, the Cree word for chinook wind, the installation was designed by Delreé Dumont, a visual artist from the Onion Lake Cree Nation (Wîhcêkaskosîwi-sâkahikanihk) in Saskatchewan. Pronounced Saaa-ska-no-tin, Dumont has incorporated the chinook winds that Calgary is known for into the mountainscape design.

This art will be on display until February 27th, so be sure to check it out before then.
2. Northern Reflections Augmented Reality Art Wal
This exhibition is a series of painted windows that uses Augmented Reality (AR) technology to animate each window through smartphone devices. The series will be created by a variety of local and national artists and will stretch throughout Calgary’s East Village and Inglewood districts showcasing many participating local businesses and transforming the city streets into a grand urban art-walk. You will be supporting local brick and mortar businesses and artists!
The exhibition will be on until February 27th, and you can click here for more information on the event and to download both the map and the AUGLE app.
3. Chinook Blast
Experience winter fun at Chinook Blast – Calgary’s winter festival celebration.
Until February 27, Chinook Blast will be heating up Calgary with a celebration of community, culture, and civic pride. The best of Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport and recreation will be on display – including the Nordic Loop here in East Village! Grab life by the poles and put those snowshoes on for the 1 km cross-country ski track. It is the perfect spot to get a taste of the mountains in the heart of the city.
